I think I was a late starter with wanting to know what to do with my life. I had a great life as a kid growing up in a stable loving family environment. How rare is that?
While at school I was involved in a couple of musicals, like the school production of ‘Pirates of Penzance’ in about 1971 or so, and also in the Birkenhead Operatic Society version of ‘Oliver Twist’ in 1973. Lord knows how I managed that, as my voice is not my best feature. Unfortunately it is not my worst either!
Acting really came when I moved to London and started seriously bodybuilding. I managed go procure work in television commercials like ‘Frosties’ with Tony the Tiger, ‘Tescos,’ ‘Lamot Lager,’ ‘Brook Street Bureau,’ ‘Furgusson TV’s,’ and many others. Then I started to get small speaking rolls in TV series like ‘Casualty,’ ‘The Paradise Club,’ ‘Allo Allo,’ as well as guest spots in TV shows like ‘The Generation Game’ with Bruce Forsyth, ‘Beadles About’ with Jeremy Beadle and the magician Paul Daniels. I moved on to small parts in films like ‘Bullseye’ with Michael Caine and a couple more that went straight to video.
I also acted on the Operatic stage. No, not as a singer! I think they got wind of my singing prowess from my school days and gave me acting parts only! But it was fun to be on two of London’s premier Operatic stages performing in Phillip Glass’ ‘Akhnaten’ and Mozart’s ‘Idomeneo’.
Then in America I acted in two of my short films ‘The Guest of Honor’ and my favorite ‘Ye Olde Agent’. Great fun. And I will be playing the part of Buster in my new film ‘The Wide Boys’. Please visit the site at www.TheWideBoys.com and see how you can become a part of this film, and help a charity that looks after the homeless and the mentally ill.
Here are some photos of me as an actor.
